Donald Lee Thomas, born on November 7, 1964, in Highland Falls, New York, passed away on February 24, 2025, in Kelso, Washington. He was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many.
Donald dedicated over two decades of his life as a cook for McDonald's, where his infectious laugh and joyous spirit made him a favorite among coworkers and customers. His personality shone through in all that he did; he was known for being very funny, kind, and truly the life of the party. Donald embraced the role of big brother not only to his siblings but to many in his community, always offering a helping hand or a listening ear.
He served in the U.S. Navy for two years, an experience that contributed to his strong sense of camaraderie and commitment to others. An avid sports enthusiast, Donald loved fishing and was a passionate fan of the Seahawks and Trail Blazers. His youthful spirit lived on through his past as a pitcher in baseball and his enjoyment of basketball, which he cherished throughout his life.
Donald was a high school graduate, and he carried with him a wisdom that belied his years, embracing every opportunity to spread joy and laughter. His family members, who will forever hold him in their hearts, include his mother, Peggy Williams of Kelso, WA; his father, Larry Thomas of Vancouver, WA; his son, Tommy Turpen of Portland, OR; his daughter, Kaitlyn Turpen of Gresham, OR; and his sisters, Tamara Harvey of La Pine, OR, and Lora Bartholomew of Kelso, WA. He is also survived by his nephew Kyle Hagedorn of Phoenix, AZ, and nieces Alyssa Pallett and Jessica Shoemaker, both from Vancouver, WA, as well as nephew James Bartholomew of Vancouver, WA.
Donald was preceded in death by his nephew, Connor Harvey.
A memorial service to honor Donald's life will be held on March 16, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 729 Ocean Beach Hwy, Longview, WA 98632. He will be remembered for his joyful spirit, unwavering kindness, and the immense love he shared with those around him. His legacy of laughter and love will live on in the hearts of many.
