Judith Woodard Shipman of Kelso, WA passed away May 15, 2024. She was born March 29, 1936 to Lorraine Powelson and Charles "Chuck" Woodard who preceded her in death. She was a descendent of the Castle Rock Pioneering families of Powelson, Cook, Studebaker and Davidson. She was the third generation of her family to graduate from Castle Rock high school in 1954.
Judy spent many years in California before returning home in 1999.She enjoyed water skiing, boating, league bowling, horseback riding and golf. While living in California she enjoyed working with the Indio Junior Mounted Police going on trail rides and working on gymkhanas. She rode as a Spanish lady on her Palomino, Becky, in the Date Festival parade and the Palm Springs Rodeo parade.
She belonged to Indian Wells Country Club in Indian Wells, CA for many years where she served on the Women's Gold Executive Board, chairing several offices. She enjoyed meeting celebrities and scoring for the gold pros in the Bob Hope Classic golf tournaments, playing in golf tournaments, playing on the ladies golf tema and taking golf vacations.
She like having friend in for dinner, gardening, cross stitching and taking golf vacations.
Survivors are daughter Laurie Calkins, grandsons Kurt (Breanna) and Karl Karstens, granddaughter Chloe Calkins, all of Palm Desert CA, Sister Susan Schlecht, brother Chuck Woodard (Jamie) of Castle Rock, brother Bruce Saltzman of San Bernardino, CA. Also, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
