Our dear mother, Elsie “Maxine” Neiman passed away following a brief illness at home peacefully surrounded by her family the evening of Friday, March 1st, 2024. Maxine was born to Richard and Mabel Ross of Oakville, Washington October 31st 1934 the eldest of four children. Maxine and Fred Neiman married in 1956 making their home in Kalama and raising six children in the same house they reside in today. She has been a 4-H leader for 59 years. A few years ago, Maxine received a Lifetime Achievement Recognition at the National 4-H organization awards banquet.
Maxine has served on the Kalama Fair Board for over 50 years. In 2022 she was awarded a Special Recognition of Service Ribbon from the Washington State Fair Commission.
In 2023, Fred and Maxine were honored with Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kalama Chamber of Commerce.
When her youngest child was of school age, Maxine went to work at Kalama Elementary School as a Kindergarten Teachers Aid and Resource Room facilitator for ESD until retirement. Many of her prior students still stay in touch with her. Maxine has always been ready to lend a hand, a caring ear or a servant’s heart whenever needed. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
Maxine is survived by husband, Fred J. Neiman; a brother, Jesse Ross of Longview; children, Fred M. (Katie) Neiman, Paul (Judy) Neiman, Barbara (Dan) Presseisen, Jim (Amy) Neiman, Delores (Stan) Stanley and Duane (Shaylyn) Neiman. Also, 19 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren and recently added a Great, Great Granddaughter. We love you, mom. The Neiman family.
A Catholic Mass funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 13th 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Parish in Kalama with a Rosary at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
