Scott Daniel Mercer

Scott D. Mercer of Woodland, Washington, stepped into the loving embrace of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 22, 2023, his 67^th birthday.  He passed away due to complications of heart disease. Scott was survived by his wife, Valerie Mercer; son, Steven Mercer; daughter, Erin Mercer; step-daughter, Sarah Daggett (Shane); step-sons, Andrew, and David Sanders; twin brother, David Mercer; brother, James Mercer (Melinda); sister, Barbara Krawczyk (John).

Scott was born in 1956 to Daniel E and Betty M Mercer in Portland, Oregon. Scott attended Raleigh Park Elementary, Whitford Middle, and Beaverton High School, where he served in student government and played baritone in the band. His earlier activities in Boy Scouts led him to become an Eagle Scout and to receive his God and Country Award. Scott graduated from the University of Oregon in 1978 where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. Scott began his career in Kennewick, Washington as a District Sales Representative for Motorola Communications. In 1980, he returned to Portland to work for the family business, Mercer Industries in the company’s millwork and pre-hung door division. This was the beginning of a thirty-four-year career of progressively more senior positions where he and his siblings eventually ran the company together.

Outdoor activities and travel were in his blood. He climbed several local mountain tops in the area with members of the Masama Mountaineering Club. Always friendly and willing to help, he was respected for his dedication to God, family, work ethic, integrity, wisdom, and humility.

Scott and Valerie Sanders met in 2005. They married in 2006 in time for step-son, Andrew to attend elementary school in Tigard, Oregon. Scott retired from Mercer Industries in 2014 when the company decided to close its doors and remained retired to spend time traveling and working on home renovations and projects. Scott was active in volunteering at church and had a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus where he humbly walked with his God through every challenge in his life. He was the rock the family could rely upon. After living for ten years together in Tigard, Oregon, Scott, and Valerie moved to Woodland, Washington, where they planned to live the rest of their lives together.

Scott had a sense of humor sprinkled with puns and quick wit. He jumped headlong into new home projects as he enjoyed learning new things and working hard. His wife, Valerie, and children meant the world to him. He was very supportive of their many endeavors, speaking of them with pride and adoration. He had an especially close relationship with his twin brother, David and loved his extended family.

Scott is dearly missed by all who knew him but his faith and memories of who he was and the acts of kindness he has left us with will last forever.

In lieu of flowers, Valerie requests that donations be sent to Valerie which will be sent to Elijah Streams.com water well project where water wells are being dug to provide clean drinking water in Africa and other needy places around the world.
